Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Starshelf (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. License to Use the App

Beacon Light Investments grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Starshelf on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to the App Store's or Google Play's applicable usage rules.

3. Your Content

Everything you enter into Starshelf — sessions, observations, gear, sketches or photos, your Observer Name, and generated certificates — is yours. It's stored locally on your device. We do not access, host, sync, or claim any ownership over your content. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

4. Purchases

Starshelf offers a free tier and a single, one-time "Starshelf Pro" purchase that unlocks unlimited sessions, additional catalogs, and PDF export, print, and share for session reports and certificates. This is a one-time, non-consumable purchase — it is not a subscription and does not auto-renew or recur. All purchases are processed by Apple or Google, and refunds are governed entirely by the App Store's or Google Play's own refund policies — Beacon Light Investments does not process payments or refunds directly.

5. Achievement Certificates

Starshelf's Achievement Certificates and Session Certificates are decorative, on-device records generated automatically from your own logged data. They are original to this App, are not submitted to, verified by, or affiliated with any real-world observing club, society, or certification program, and carry no meaning or credential outside the App. Certificates are permanent once unlocked and are not revoked if a qualifying observation is later edited or deleted.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App except as permitted by law, and not to use the App for any unlawful purpose.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, or non-infringement. Starshelf's on-device calculations (moon phase, magnification, exit pupil, field of view, and similar figures) are provided for reference and planning purposes and are not guaranteed to be free of error.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Beacon Light Investments shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the App — including any loss of data stored on your device. Because Starshelf stores data only locally and offers no cloud backup or sync, you are solely responsible for backing up your data (including via the App's own Backup export feature) before uninstalling the App, switching devices, or clearing app data.

9. Changes to the App or These Terms

We may update the App or these Terms from time to time. If these Terms change materially, the "Effective date" above will be updated. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

10. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it. Data already stored locally on your device remains yours until you delete it or uninstall the App; use "Delete All My Data" in Settings to remove it immediately instead.
